Do you know a local war hero?

Vet's Badge woman

MP Russell Brown has helped hundreds of local war heroes claim their special commemorative badges.

If someone you know is a war hero you could help them receive the recognition they deserve for their bravery and the sacrifice they made on behalf of all of us.

Four years ago the UK Government introduced the HM Armed Forces Veterans Badge as a small token of thanks for the contribution and achievements of all our veterans. In this time eligibility for the badge has been rolled-out to everyone who has served in the armed forces at any time.

Local MP Russell Brown said, "The Veterans Badge can only ever be a small token of thanks for the sacrifice veterans of all ages- from teenagers right through to the wartime generation- have made on all our behalves. But nonetheless it's important that the contribution of every veteran is recognised, and the badge and Veteran's Day which is held annually on 26 June gives us the opportunity to celebrate their achievements."

Perhaps one of your grandparents served during World War Two, your father during the Falklands War or your brother, sister or indeed you yourself have served in a more recent military campaign. If so then you or your loved ones will likely be eligible to apply for a veterans badge.

But it's not just those who've served in the armed forces who deserve our thanks. Many people played a vital role at home during the First and Second World Wars. On the Home Front many women worked long and hard to provide food and timber in the Women's Land Army and Women's Timber Corps. That's why the UK Government will also introduce a special commemorative badge to recognise all our surviving 'Land Girls' and 'Lumber Jills'.

So do you know anyone, or believe that you yourself are entitled to one of these special badges? If so Russell can help. In the last couple of years he's helped hundreds of war heroes from Dumfries and Galloway claim their badges, and he's been honoured to present many of them too.

To apply, phone Russell's office on 01387 247902 or 01776 205254, email him on russell@brownmp.new.labour.org.uk or fill out the online form below and Russell will send you an application form.
